A brief history of the hotel

The hotel appears on a medieval map of the area as early as the XVIIth century, as part of the neighboring convent, a present day hospital.

In the XIXth century, the hotel became a relay station for stage-coaches and belonged to the Caumont family. They name it the Hotel du Commerce. The owners equally owned the Chateau de Seguinot. The arrival of the railway became an immediate threat to stage coaches, and the proprietors were forced to sell the Chateau.

In the beginning of the XXth century, this relay station was modernized little by little throughout the years as it was transformed into a real hotel. Armand Fallieres, French president during the Third Republic was friends with the Caumont family, and became one of the prestigious guests of the hotel. It is through this friendship that Armand Fallieres introduced to his Parisian friends the famous terrine de Nerac. The Hotel du Commerce is then notorious for its quality of reception and its cuisine.

During the XXth century, the hotel underwent many changes in ownership, and at the end of the 90s it became the Hotel Henri IV.  In 2010 we purchased the hotel, and since have been in the process of an entire renovation. All the rooms and old bathrooms have been either demolished or resized to offer modern comfort to our guests, without diminishing the charm of this ancient structure.
